War Is Not a Game is a documentary based on the experiences of eight soldiers at war on several continents. Lode Desmet reveals their helplessness in regard to the many international agreements aimed at regulating armed conflict, which they have been supposed to apply on the battlefield since the first Geneva Convention was signed in 1864. Some of them feel like scapegoats, while others feel no qualms about war and simply follow orders. The film was inspired by the 2006 non-fiction book "Imperial Life in the Emerald City" by journalist Rajiv Chandrasekaran, portraying life in the Green Zone, Baghdad. The film stars Matt Damon, Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, Khalid Abdalla and Brendan Gleeson. The production of the movie began in January 2008 in Spain and later moved on to Morocco. The film is a perceptive analysis of the first year of the American occupation of Iraq but it is far from being an anti-American motion picture. It compares the good intentions of the lower ranking US personnel with those of the higher ranking officers in the US army who issue orders at the top. During the 33 days of fighting, Israel dropped more than one million cluster bomb munitions onto the fields, orchards and towns of South Lebanon—with the majority of the bombs being deployed in the final 3 days of the war. An estimated 35% of these cluster bombs failed to detonate upon impact, leaving the mine-like devices scattered over the countryside until unwitting civilians stumble upon them and are maimed or killed by the resulting explosion. In 2007, teams of locally recruited and trained de-miners race to locate and deactivate the bombs before even more civilians are injured or killed. Remnants of a War takes an intimate look into the lives of these brave workers—Muslims and Christians; Sunnis and Shia; women and men—who work shoulder to shoulder in the sweltering heat to make their lands available for ranching, farming and for children to safely play upon once again. CinePolitics will be discussing what happens to war torn companies after the war is over, particularly how South Lebanon continues to live under the shadow of Israel's attacks. It will also discuss why the US and Israel have refused to sign drafts outlawing the use of cluster bombs. trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvLtstfH3Zk Date Broadcast: Saturday October 3rd]]> Thu, 11 Nov 2010 11:35:58 GMT http://www.jamesdenselow.com/in-the-media/viewvideo/7/lebanon/cinepolitics-press-tv-remnants-of-a-war <![CDATA[You think Iraq was bad?
